FAQS

Your Questions Answered — Supporting Whole-Child Wellness

What is integrative pediatrics?

Integrative medicine is a whole-child approach that combines the best of conventional pediatrics with holistic, evidence-based care. It focuses on uncovering root causes like nutrition, gut health, sleep, stress, and environment, that may affect your child’s mood, behavior, and overall well being.

What conditions do you treat?

We care for children across all stages of wellness and illness, including:
- ADHD, anxiety, focus challenges
- Behavioral and emotional regulation
- Sleep issues and fatigue
- Gut health, constipation, and reflux
- Allergies, eczema, asthma
- Chronic inflammation and immune support

Do you replace my pediatrician?

No—we work alongside your primary pediatrician. Think of us as a complementary layer of care, helping your child thrive using lifestyle and functional strategies. We coordinate when needed and refer appropriately for urgent or specialized care.

What does a visit look like?

Initial case review (30 min) -

A brief review of your child’s history and current concerns to gain clarity, identify key patterns, and outline next steps

Comprehensive and other deep dive consultations -
- Medical history and developmental timeline
- Nutrition, sleep, behavior, and emotional patterns
- Family dynamics, school and environmental exposures
Follow-ups are tailored and may include personalized wellness plans, supplements, labs, or therapy referrals.

Do you prescribe medications?

Yes, when appropriate. Our goal is not to eliminate conventional medications but to use the least invasive, most effective tools first. Many families come to us seeking alternatives or hoping to reduce medications thoughtfully and safely.

Do you offer lab testing?

Yes. We offer conventional labs and advanced functional testing when indicated:
- Gut microbiome analysis
- Organic acids testing (OAT)
- Nutrient and toxin panels
- Food sensitivity testing
- Genetic panels

What types of therapies do you offer?

We offer functional medicine, homeopathy, nutrition guidance, and mind-body therapies (like yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness) to support children’s focus, mood, sleep, gut health, and overall well being.

How often do we follow up?

It depends on your child’s needs. Most families check in:
- Every 4–8 weeks at first
- Then every 2–3 months for progress check-ins and updates
We also offer packages for ongoing support.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes! We offer both in-person and virtual appointments through our secure patient portal. We are located at 501 N. Salem Street. STE 201.

 Apex. NC 27502

Do you take insurance?

No, our integrative services are not covered by insurance and we are a self-pay practice. This allows us to focus on providing thorough, individualized care for your child. We will provide you with a receipt after your visit, which you may submit to your insurance company to check if they offer any reimbursements.

How do I get started?

Book an Initial Case Review to schedule your child’s first visit. We’ll walk you through every step.

Polyvagal-Informed Therapies — FAQ

What is polyvagal-informed therapy?

A nervous-system–based approach (from Polyvagal Theory) that helps children shift from“fight/flight/freeze” into safety and connection, improving regulation, attention, and social engagement.

Who is it for?

Children and teens with emotional dysregulation, anxiety, ADHD, sensory overwhelm, or shutdown/avoidant patterns.

What skills does it build?

Body awareness, co-regulation and self-regulation, breath pacing, grounding, interoception, social engagement, and flexible coping.

What happens in a session?

One-on-one, play-based and movement-based practices (e.g., paced breathing, gentle vestibular input, orienting, vocal toning, rhythm, safe-place imagery), matched to your child’s arousal state. Parents get a brief debrief and home practice.

How long and how often?

~20–40 minutes; weekly or bi-weekly, then taper as regulation improves.

How do you measure progress?

Goal tracking each visit (arousal shifts, recovery time, participation), parent reports, and periodic 8–12weeks reviews.

Is it the same as psychotherapy or OT?

No. It is a polyvagal-informed coaching/skills approach that complements medical care, counseling, and OT. We coordinate with your child’s care team when appropriate.

Is it safe?

Yes, practices are gentle and titrated. We avoid techniques that provoke dizziness, nausea, or distress, and we stop/modify if discomfort arises.

Any children who should not participate?

Children with uncontrolled seizures, severe motion sensitivity, or acute medical/psychiatric instability should be cleared by their clinician first.

Do parents have homework?

Simple 5–10 minute home practices (co-regulating routines, breath games, movement breaks) to reinforce skills.

How is this offered at Orzu Kids?

.Polyvagal-informed sessions are part of our integrative medicine approach and are included within our 6 and 12 month programs (not offered as a standalone service). They are not a substitute for individualized medical care.
